Caesarstone ICON: Beloved Designs Enter New Realm of Beauty and Depth
Inventing quartz surfaces in 1987, Caesarstone is globally known as a true pioneer in the field of engineered stone. Cultivating a unique spirit of industry leadership over four decades has led us to introduce numerous innovations, from veining technology to countless groundbreaking design patterns and solutions. Yet one of our major achievements is Caesarstone ICON – our new advanced fusion surfaces. Caesarstone ICON surfaces are crystalline silica-free, and are made with a patent-pending, unique blend of ~80% recycled materials like high-quality, post-industrial recycled glass and innovative materials that set a new standard for sustainability.
When new materials drive new design
Caesarstone ICON was developed by our materials team, and features a revolutionary composition of materials. As our R&D experts explored the various characteristics of the new materials and made sure they fit the Caesarstone standard in terms of surface hardness, durability and stain resistance. The design team was given an ambitious task: to transition Caesarstone’s existing quartz design portfolio to the new advanced fusion surface materials.
“For us designers, working with new materials is a cause for great celebration”, says Mor Krisher, Caesarstone’s Head of Product Design. “From a design perspective, it gives us the opportunity to experiment and accomplish exciting things.”
Caesarstone’s advanced fusion surfaces include high-quality recycled materials, with significant glass content. Naturally, the incorporation of glass led to high levels of transparency that other Caesarstone surfaces – or any surfaces, for that matter – do not possess.
“Even though we were tasked with recreating beloved designs on new surfaces, we wanted to highlight the new materials’ unique qualities”, explains Krisher. “Our goal was to show the truth, so end consumers could feel the authenticity of our new products.”
Therefore, as the team gradually transitioned the current portfolio into the new advanced fusion surfaces material base, transparency and depth were selected as central motifs that could not only make such a transition successful but also create an enhanced design experience that redefines the meaning of home and kitchen luxury. Nevertheless, the team made sure to preserve the familiar beauty and characteristics of Caesarstone’s existing portfolio, which designers have come to know and love.
“Caesarstone ICON surfaces feature enhanced depth and provide a sense of layered multi-dimensionality and texture that we’ve never seen before”, says Krisher. “As opposed to other material bases, here we can actually create textures within the material itself, which resemble natural stone and are visibly evident, especially when interacting with light.
